Dentures

Q: How often should I clean my dentures?
A: It is very important to clean you denture after meals and before going to bed at night.

Q: Can I leave my dentures in my mouth all the time?
A: Dentures should be left out of the mouth at least four (4) hours each day or as directed by your dentist.

Q: My dentures slip, click and feel loose when I laugh, eat ore even smile. What should I do?
A: Whenever you have maintenance problems with you dentures, you need to take the problem directly to your dentist for an evaluation and adjustment. Your dentures may need relining, rebasing, or remaking due to normal wear.

Q: How often do I need to replace my dentures?
A: Every patient is different, so it is difficult to say for sure. But on average, your jaw and soft tissues may change enough within five or six years that you will need new dentures.

Q: Is there anything I can buy in a local pharmacy that will take care of some problems that I have with my dentures?
A: While there are various glue products available over the counter, these are not the best answer. Some of the glues should not be used on dentures because they often contain harmful chemicals and are also ineffective in doing an adequate repair job. Do not attempt to adjust dentures yourself, even with a so-called "repair kit". Make an appointment to see your dentist as soon as any problems arise.
